A BRITISH judo champion, world medalist and Olympian found new sparing partners on a visit to local judo club.
This weekend, 7th dan black belt Steve Gawthorpe, paid a visit to Leigh Judo Club to deliver a masterclass of judo to the eager talented members. The Olympian has had many achievements throughout his long career, including achieving 5th at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, European bronze in Liege and becoming World bronze medallist in Seoul.
At the purpose build dojo in Lowton, the children and adult members alike thoroughly enjoyed the session and soaked up as much advice and guidance for the veteran coach. Head Coach Luke Brown “It was a fantastic opportunity to welcome such an experienced coach and competitor to the club. The masterclass has been beneficial for both our competitive and recreational members. It’s been a great day we have all enjoyed.”
We’ve had the privilege of host and delivering many masterclasses from Olympians, World medalists and Commonwealth champions over the last 4 years including Sophie Cox, David Groom, Frazer Chamberlin, John Hope, Owen Livsey and Steve Gawthorpe. There will be even more to come in the near future including expanding our youtube channel providing technical guidance, advice and support.
