We’re back from our fun summer Leigh Judo Club trip. This year we visited Low Bank Ground for three days full of excitement and anticipation. We had an amazing time with lots of kayaking, canoeing, gill scrambling, forest trekking, blackberry picking, games and endless amounts of fun!
Day 1. Arrival
Upon our arrival we explored our temporary home as the LJC tribe ‘bagzid’ their rooms, got unpacked and their beds made in record time! We began exploring our new beautiful environment crossing the fields with ‘friendly’ llama’s #lamadrama down to the lake. After working up an appetite skimming stones and exploring the beach, we headed back for tea.
We all hand made our own individual pizzas with a strange variety of flavours washing down by hot chocolate and cookies after getting ready for bed.
Day 2. Lets get wet!
After a good sleep with no disturbances, everyone gathered down for a breakfast of sausages, beans, scrambled eggs, potato waffles and toast washed down with orange juice and water. Joe, our friendly activity guide arrived at 9am and watched the tribe wriggling around on the couch excited as he explained what the day involved. We got ready in our dirty gear, squeezed into our wet suits and marched to the lake ready for our first experience of Kayaking! After getting the basics from Joe we headed into the cold water – paddling like maniacs. After the wind picked up a little more, we headed/drifted back to the beach swiftly exiting our kayaks into the lake water.
Teamwork fun was next up as we tied two canoes together. With teams paddling either side, we quickly head out over the lake eventually reaching the other side. We began paddling up ‘Crocodile Creek’ completing challenges on the way, getting a little wet before paddling back home. Before heading across the field we had one last challenge; jumping in off the end of the pier into the lake. Not a club to shy away from any challenge, all the team obliged (on multiple occasions) without hesitation. After putting our kit in the dry room, lunch of ham, pepperoni and cheese sandwiches and crisps were demolished with smiles. Followed lunch we headed back out for gill scrambling (climbing up a rocky river, stream and waterfalls). It was fantastic! Jumping into the streams off rock faces into deep natural water pools.
After ambling back downstream we headed back home to warm up and dry off. As the Leigh Judo Club gang had a hot shower and put on warm clothes, Chilli Con Carne was prepared for tea with cheesy nachos and juice followed by hot chocolate and cookies due to demand.
Day 3. Sad to say goodbye
After a long deep sleep and breakfast of cereal, sausages, mushrooms, beans, scrambled eggs and toast we headed out for some mountain climbing, forest trekking and blackberry picking. Bacon sandwiches were the reward as the troops began to tidy and pack followed by some games in our field. Upset that the trip was over but extremely happy with the new and fun experiences we all had.
Its safe to say this will certainly happen again…
